about
Hold Onto Me was written under a tree in Doylestown, Pennsylvania with John Leahy, the first time either of us ever collaborated with another artist. The real significance of the song to me does not come from the words, but from the music. The acoustic guitar composition was actually its standalone song a year previously, originally titled "Susha". It was my personal favorite instrumental I had ever written, so having a new version with lyrics over it represented to me the difference in being a musician from being just an instrumentalist to a full fledged solo artist.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
Most of my life was spent on you
Hung up on things that never came true
But I've come to know this road
And what it's like to be alone
I thought I was your cornerstone
(Prechorus 1)
Hold onto me
Hold onto me
Hold onto me while we try
And fall free
(Chourus)
All this time I've been waiting for you
Seeking love, waiting for the truth
It's a shame you didn't love me too
It's a shame I'm falling for you
(Verse 2)
Most of my thoughts were of you
Thinking how our love was bulletproof
Even when it collapsed on me
And I just wanted to breathe
Our love was falling free
(Prechorus)
Hold onto me
Hold onto me
Hold onto me while we try
And fall free
(Chours)
All this time I've been waiting for you
Seeking love, waiting for the truth
It's a shame you didn't love me too
It's a shame I'm falling for you
(Bridge)
I'm falling down and I don't know where I'm going
Holding on tight but there's no way of knowing
Our love was on fire, now I'm just catching the embers
Choking on smoke just trying to remember
When life was better
(Chorus)
All this time I've been waiting for you
Seeking love, waiting for the truth
It's a shame you didn't love me too
It's a shame I'm falling for you
Hold onto me, while we try
and fall
